We've all heard the saying, "The grass isn't always greener on the other side." In other words, what you have in front of you IS just as good as what you'd find elsewhere. So it goes without saying that what your community provides for you is as good (if not better) than what you might find by traveling, let's say, an hour or so north. This is why the instructors at our first Young Writers Workshop are authors from Rochester and SE Minnesota. Because we're knowledgeable, experienced, and above all, passionate about our craft. We don't write because we want to. We write because we need to! There's something inside of us that forces us to sit in front of the keyboard. It forces us to write stories we love and, hopefully, for others to enjoy. We couldn't stop writing even if we wanted to, which is frustrating at times. Sometimes we want to quit, and honestly, I've "quit" more times than I can count, but it never lasts long. I get right back on the laptop and do what I love to do.
